Covid: Russia starts vaccinating animals
Russia has started vaccinating animals against coronavirus, officials say. In March, Russia announced it had registered what it said was the world's first animal-specific jab. Several regions have now started vaccinations at veterinary clinics, Russia's veterinary watchdog, Rosselkhoznadzor, told local media. Interest has been shown in the Carnivak-Cov vaccine by the EU, Argentina South Korea and Japan, the agency said. While scientists say there is currently no evidence that animals play a significant role in spreading the disease to humans, infections have been confirmed in various species worldwide. These include dogs, cats, apes and mink. -

US dog shelters struggle with returns after pandemic adoption boom - BBC News
This story from the BBC talks about how many dogs adopted during the pandemic are being returned to shelters once life returns to normal. Some adopters did not think ahead or understand all the implications of pet ownership. This is a traumatic experience for these poor animals. Also fewer dogs were neutered/spayed during the pandemic, so there is an uptick in the number of puppies needing homes. -

United Kingdom Rushes to Approve Vaccine
The United Kingdom became the world's first country to approve a COVID-19 vaccine, and will begin distributing the vaccine to its citizens. The apparent rush to approval drew criticism from Dr. Fauci. He later apologized saying "I have a great deal of confidence in what the UK does both scientifically and from a regulator standpoint." He further clarified his point by saying that the United States's approval process will take longer, but will reach a decision soon. -

Kids Crash BBC Reporter's News Segment. Ellen Degeneres Dissects the clip.
This clip is SO funny! I've watched it many times now and it seems to just get funnier. The father, in early days of quarantine, is doing a news segment for BBC news. His toddler comes marching in with flair and gusto. Then his baby son scoots in using his walker. Then the mom flies in the door, grabs them, and yanks them back out. -

LGBT: Covid-19 forced me back home where I'm 'unwanted'
This short video discusses the plight of a LGBTQ person who is forced to return to an unaccepting home environment after losing her job due to the pandemic. This is another example of the ways that Covid-19 has impacted the LGBTQ community in struggles unique to the community. I never even thought about this as a potential problem because I am fortunate enough to have a family that accepts me for who I am. It makes me worry for LGBTQ youth who were able to move out on their own and get away from a toxic home life. -

Sanford Lake Flooded
The article expresses my sentiment well, a flood in the middle of a pandemic, a flood on the level of the 1986 flood. 10,000 people evacuated. I'm hurting for my hometown, and wondering how people will navigate survival and recovery during COVID.
