The scent of Clorox wipes
Sensory Memory for Pandemic Archive Smell of Clorox wipes One of the strongest sensory memories I have of the early pandemic months in spring and summer 2020 is the scent of Clorox wipes. During the pandemic, my father, in his 90’s, lived with my children and me in Albuquerque, NM. My dad had numerous health problems I was extremely concerned with his health and well-being. Early on, when wipes were in short supply, I hoarded the bright yellow canisters, some from the store and some from my son’s dorm room which he had to vacate. I used them daily to wipe the surfaces that we touched the most, such as door handles, the microwave, and refrigerator door and at first, even to wipe down the groceries that I had delivered to avoid going to the store. The scent of bleach with a layer of lemon that the wipes left behind became a satisfying sign—an illusion that I had some control over my family’s safety. Over time, when evidence of how COVID transmitted became clearer, I used the wipes for my father’s care—his inability to make it to the bathroom sometimes and wiping down the ever-growing stable of equipment Dad needed for daily life: an oxygen machine, lung drain kit, walker, portable commode. My dad passed away of in 2022, and while miraculously none of us ever did contract COVID, the smell of the wipes will always bring me back to that time of fear and uncertainty. -

Essentials that are hard to find during COVID-19
I submitted this image because it represents the cleaning items that are essential in my life but have been hard to find because of COVID. Many people were restricted about how many Clorox wipes they could buy at the store. It was weird to go to the store and not find the cleaning products I need. When I found an item such as Lysol Laundry Sanitizer, I would send a text to my friends and family to let them know which store had them in stock. I would also try to buy several Lysol Laundry Sanitizers so that I could give them to my friends and family. Prior to COVID, cleaning products would not be a gift that you would give your friends and family, but it became a thoughtful item that you could give to your loved ones. For several weeks it was difficult for me to find Lysol laundry sanitizer. It was scary to go to the store and find the shelves empty. Luckily, I had already stockpiled prior to COVID so I had plenty for several months. -

Tik Tok
I resisted joining Tik Tok, and working on the archive I saw that some of the submissions were from this application, but I wasn't interested in learning a new platform. Then, when NPR started reporting that President Donald J Trump was going to ban downloading the app, I decided to download it and see what it was like. It's a funny amalgamation of short videos, sometimes music, that ranges from bizarre to hilarious. I keep seeing videos from the member TreyTV who does hilarious impressions of DJT, this one is a spin off the Idaho man who make a Tik Tok to a Fleetwood Mac song while drinking Ocean Spray. I have to say, as bleak as thing are right now, it feels so great to laugh. -

An Essential Worker Shares His Experience Of Working At A Clorox Plant
Clorox is a company based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have a close friend that works for Clorox and they shared this interview with me. The interview captures the realities that COVID-19 is having on Clorox and its employees. The interview highlights the experience of Larry Wheeler, a senior packaging operator who has worked for the company for 29 years. Clorox employees are playing an essential role in stopping the spread of COVID-19. Wheeler's dedication and commitment to working as hard as possible for the common good is commendable. -

Clorox as medicine meme
Many shocked jokes, late night comedy skits, and more about Trumps remarks. Traditional role of the nations leader is to give advice about how to protect the entire country and to show that he cares about Americans. Instead, Trump suggested something deadly and showed he doesn’t care at all. This meme is particularly good because Clorox bleach is upside down as if attached to an iv and turned into an inhaler and pills. In the current pandemic, disinfectant products like Clorox or 409 can be hard to find. Public health agencies are scrambling to teach people not to use bleach or Lysol internally because some might try the President’s ideas. It’s dangerous and it never was a joke as we all know. The memes help us cope by laughing at the utter horror of covid19 deaths and the terrible federal response led by the president. -

Corona Virus Clorox Meme
The meme is a can of Clorox as if it is drinkable soda. It is playing upon the recent conference President Trump had in which he said we could 'inject Clorox to prevent the virus'. This was so significant that Clorox came out with a statement addressing this, stating their product is not meant to be consumed or put in the human body at all. The type of humor present in this meme is very satirical. It brings to light the humorous and unfortunate reality of our ignorant President.
