Life of a Retail Worker During COVID-19
Throughout the entire pandemic, I worked in retail (specifically at the "Meijer" grocery store). As essential workers, it was frightening going to work and exposing myself to illness while many others stayed home in quarantine. I went to work and was met with frantic customers panic buying everything and anything they could find - the meat aisles were empty. The bread was gone. There wasn't a roll of toilet paper to be found. Although stock of popular items was low on a national level, we still received questions about when we would be getting more shipment in. It seemed as though people were gearing up for an apocalypse rather than a pandemic. We went around cleaning constantly, wiping and spraying down every surface we could find. Masks were mandated and giant plexi-glass shields were installed in the check-out lanes. It was incredibly difficult to work alongside others who were absolutely terrified - I was worried that I would do something wrong and set them off. Working throughout the pandemic completely wore me out and shed light on who people become when they're scared. -

My Story of How COVID-19 Changed My Life
When the pandemic first hit, I was one of those people who believed it was just like the flu and that it wasn't going to be as bad as people said it was going to be. Over time I came to realize that this was no ordinary illness and that the world had changed drastically. Streets were empty, school was online, and it had felt like a zombie apocalypse had gripped the world. One thing the pandemic taught me was to appreciate the time you have because you never know when it may come to an end. Spending time with friends and family helped me realize the joys they bring to my life and how important they really are to me. -

Apocalyptic Wear during Pandemic-A Funny Meme
In the early days of the pandemic, life was very scary. There was a lot of uncertainty as to how long things would last, who would get sick, and how to adjust to all of the rapid changes taking place. It often felt a lot like a looming apocalypse. This meme just struck a cord with me. In a moment of stress it caused laughter. I only wish we did end up wearing some form of apocalyptic wear. I am disappointed that didn't happen. -

Is the United States Doing Ok?
This meme highlights a feeling that I, and many friends and colleagues, are going through: what the heck is the US doing right now? We seem to have given up on trying to handle coronavirus. While that is bad by itself, at the same time we also seem to be in the middle of a racial reckoning that is directly tied into the pandemic. Questions of healthcare, liberties, and the ability to peacefully gather are all coming to the forefront as the average citizen tries to make sense of this all. -

Coronavirus is the Apocalypse Now--Sign.
When the Coronavirus struck and most all of the stores closed, the streets were deserted. It truly did look like the apocalypse had come. The humor here is that the bookstore jokingly said that it was putting all the Sci Fi post-apocalyptic books into the current events section. -

Ever since the end of last year, social media was hyping up 2020 to be the best year yest for a lot of us. Right from the start, we saw the rise of military tension world wide and the rise of WW3 memes. This happens the around the same time videos of Australia is shown being on fire for the last couple of weeks. The Calendar meme originates from mid March, right when scare for the pandemic was rising throughout the media. People start joking that the year is already canceled and how it's the end of the world basically. This calendar is a result of those memes about the end of the world. Obviously exaggerated but still genuinely funny. The Outfit meme is from the first day of June in the wake of protests across the country. One can see the transition from the first meme into the second. -
