Travel and masks in Lima
we just arrived to Peru This morning. Before we got on the plane we were told that we would have to show two masks because in lima we would need to double mask while walking around no one seems to be checking if you have one mask or two masks but everyone is wearing a mask. This is a photo of the free breakfast the airport hotel provided this morning after waking up. You’ll notice the sign that says Masks are obligatory. We’re staying at the Wyndham Costa Del sol hotel. -

The Luxury of Eating at Restaurants
My wife and I really like going out to eat at the local restaurants. Of course, when the pandemic first hit the Los Angeles area everything closed due to the stay at home order that was issued in Los Angeles county. Naturally we believed that this would just be a temporary situation and looked forward to the day that the order would be lifted, and we could go back to our regular way of life. I decided to use the time sequestered at home productively and to resume my education and I enrolled in Arizona State University to finish my degree while my wife was able to continue working remotely. Ten months later we were able to begin the long journey that was the return to “normal” as the stay at home order was lifted. Much to our surprise, many of the small restaurants that we like to frequent were now closed, out of business due to their loss of clientele and the fact that many were only staying open on a month to month basis when operating regularly. It is a sad thing that the collateral damage from this Covid virus impacted small businesses all over the world in a manner that would not allow them to continue to stay open. Even now, a year after the end of the stay at home order, mandates and medical rules are still limiting the amount of people that are able to enjoy eating good food at their local eateries and it is affecting those businesses that are struggling to continue to provide services. I recorded the interior of one of our favorite restaurants one morning as my wife and I went out to breakfast, but there were still plenty of empty tables. -

1. Missing Breakfast
During the pandemic, we were kept at home and therefore had to cook many of the foods that we normally would have gone out to eat. For my family we normally went out to have breakfast and one of the main things that we would have is pancakes. They taste so much better when they are served in a restaurant, with the warm syrup and butter. At home we tried to replicate them however could not find a syrup that we really like and had to buy a griddle to cook them. It was something that for my family we really missed and the taste and smell of fresh pancakes is now something that we cherish when we are able to go out and get them. -

Starbucks Egg Bites @ Home?
While this may be a trivial struggle, the pandemic minutely affected my morning traditions. As someone who wakes up with just enough time to get ready and run through a drive-thru before work, the closure of my go-to Starbucks caused an abrupt halt in my morning routine. I could no longer grab my morning coffee and signature egg bites or great my favorite baristas as I headed off to work. After the swift investment in an Instantpot, I read through numerous recipes in an attempt to get my mornings back to "normal." As I located a sous vide egg bite dupe for those made at Starbucks, I quickly began experimenting with numerous combinations of veggies and meats for my sunrise snack. After several attempts and failures, I eventually mastered the egg bite, and now I consider them a staple of my repertoire. While my mornings were still far from "normal" due to the numerous restrictions set because of the pandemic, a little piece of me felt the comfort that stemmed from the creation of these little egg bites and my coffee in the morning. This experience that spawned out of the events caused by the pandemic forced me to become a better cook and an ingredient-conscious one at that! I've found the kitchen to be a place of comfort and artistic expression now that I know how to appreciate my ingredients, tools, and desire to learn more about cooking! -

COVID Christmas
My Christmas was the same as always despite COVID. My family ate breakfast and then we opened presents and then watch basketball. We didn't worry about getting COVID just by being around my family so it wasn't that much different than the previous Christmases. -

My virtual learning experience
My virtual learning experience was not unique, I imagine, consisting of waking up about five minutes before school started, sitting through a class while watching endless hours of youtube, making myself breakfast during my break, and the occasional going to water polo after three more classes. Though I have always thought that school lacked challenge, virtual learning bored me out of my mind, I could not stand it. -

Remote Learning During COVID-19
During COVID our school was shut down due to the corona virus. We were sent to online school although we still had the teachers with us on zoom. My routine stayed the same from day to day, wake up, eat breakfast, shower, and open my computer at my desk. It was both beneficial to wake up later in the morning but also there were many obstacles with turning in assignments online rather than paper in person. Usually our lunch was very late and by our schedule lunch period I was very hungry. Another benefit though was that I never had to walk very far or prepare a lunch before school. This was my experience with remote learning during COVID-19 -

Christmas in 2020
I experienced a very different Christmas than I would usually know. First, my brother and his girlfriend came over in the morning and we all opened presents, but we were social-distanced and wearing masks. After that, we went to my grandmother's house and we had breakfast. We had pancakes, sausages, bacon, and orange juice. After that, we went to my other grandmother's house and we opened all of our gits from them and we stayed there a while, but we were social-distanced, and wearing masks. Then we went back to my grandmother's house and we opened the rest of my presents. It was a very different experience and I will never forget it. -

How was Christmas Affected.
I write this story on my Birthday, Jan 7, but I will talk about my Christmas December 25 and how it was. My Christmas was very much the same, I woke up, and opened my presents, I got a new Series 2 Elite Controller from Xbox and a rgb lamp. I then had a yummy breakfast of Pancakes where I then gave some other presents to my family. I then packed and we were off to Joshua Tree for a few days, as that was a vacation we went on, the vacation was very different with covid but that is not my prompt. Christmas Eve was the same as yesteryears, we relaxed in the house and went to bed early for the next day. During this time of year we usually never had any body over and never went anywhere, so it didn't change very much. That was my very basic and boring Christmas. -

Christmas Story
Me and my family open our presents in the morning. Then we go over do my dads side for breakfast. Our cousins come over to my grandparents house and we open presents. We stay there for a couple hours. Then in the afternoon we go over to my moms side and all my family goes over there. We eat dinner and we open presents. However because of covid this year we weren't able to go to mammoth to ski. My christmas wasn't different at all. We did the same thing that we normally do. -

Covid Christmas
Christmas was a bit different this year because of Covid. This year was the first year of Christmas split because my parents had gotten divorced this year. On Christmas Eve I went to my dad's house and we opened up gifts, but because of Covid it was just my main family and we didn't have much company come over. The next day I went to my mom's after getting a breakfast sandwich from Starbucks and we opened presents at my mom's. The same thing we opened up gifts and that was about it, and the rest of the day was pretty normal and we had tacos for dinner. Christmas was on a Friday and on Saturday and Sunday my cousins came over and we went to the outlet malls and hung out at home and had a good weekend. So it was pretty quiet comparatively to other years but despite the virus we were able to have a good few days and a good Christmas. -

Jacob Orozco and his Covid 19 Christmas.
The Christmas of 2020, Covid was still going on. I woke up the morning of Christmas very excited, made myself eggs from a chicken, and bacon from a pic. I also had fresh squeezed orange juice. After that my 3 siblings came downstairs and had some of the breakfast that I had made. Eventually my parents work up and we got started ripping open presents. after that we drove to visit family and exchanged gifts. we had soup and meat from a cow and drove an hour back home. We got up at 8:00 am the next morning and started driving to Lake Tahoe, l beautiful lake in Northern California. we Gott caught in a snowstorm but all was worth it when we finally got there. This Covid Christmas was not that bad. As a family we found ways to make Christmas fun and enjoyable, despite the tough times we were living in. -

The day it all began
It was a normal day like any other. I got up, took a shower, brushed my teeth, and put on my uniform. I then headed downstairs to go eat breakfast. I got downstairs, had an egg, and then I got my backpack and got in the car. My dad dropped me off and then I had my classes. After school I heard people talking about a sickness but I kind of ignored them and proceeded down the stairs to carpool. My mom picked me up and then we headed home and I did homework and relaxed. The next day I got up did the usual and headed for school. I heard more people talking about this illness and I was kind of like. Oh well its flu season so it's probably the flu and so I cared on not expecting what would come next. -

Woman Serves Breakfast by Lowering Her Orders in a Bucket
During quarantine, all restaurants were closed. This woman had a food truck and her reputation gave her a large following. When she was forced to close, she started making her famous breakfast sandwiches in her small apartment's kitchen. Her customers would preorder, then line up (socially distanced of course) to pick them up. She would lower the orders down from her fire escape to her clients. Pretty cool gal! -

Prepping for a Quarantine Birthday
My sister has been jumping for joy this entire day because tomorrow is her birthday. She is turning five. She is so young and excited for this one day of the year. Her excitement has rubbed off on me and brought me some joy during this quarantine. I am sad though that her birthday cannot be as good as it could be because of the coronavirus. She has never experienced a party with her friends. I am motivated in spite of everything to do everything in my power to make her birthday special. I planned everything, made a pinata, went to buy decorations and a cake, and am going to cook her breakfast and doughnuts. I know it is a lot, but I really believe that God will give me the strength to bear it and make Elena’s 5th birthday amazing. I know it will take a lot of work and it won’t be easy, but I am ready and excited to take on the challenge. I also need to in this time do my school for the day. I won’t say I’m stressed because this is just a small party among our family to make Elena happy on her special day. I hope everything goes well. #LSMS #NSD -
