Poor Royals
Awww poor rich, self-absorbed people. In the past week we surpassed 2 million global deaths from COVID. Our nation’s capitol was attacked by domestic terrorists led by an insane person who thinks he is king. Families have lost jobs, been evicted, and can’t feed their kids. Social injustice runs rampant. Yet this is breaking news on Yahoo. Stop it. Just stop it! -

Humans of Covid-19 AU: Kate
“Tutoring online is kind of bizarre. I'm used to having lots of two-way communication, and using body language to gauge students’ interests, and that's all very different on zoom. Cameras are often turned off and muted, so you just have to assume that people are alive and with you. I’ve really had to back myself and keep going. And you can’t crack jokes because there’s no one to laugh along with you, or you have to laugh at your own jokes Many tutors are certainly feeling disconnected towards students, university and the faculty as a whole. It is making us realise how important physical presence is in terms of forging purpose. Although we assume we are superior to the natural world, COVID19 is forcing people to realise the fragility of our systems. The shut down of certain supply chains has revealed how interconnected everything is. It has also forced us to understand what we need to live, rather than what we want to live - it has made us all question what our actual basic necessities are versus our learned needs. People's behaviour has become more environmental by accident. We just need to hope that there is not a slingshot back to old habits.” Instagram post on Kate, university tutor, and her experience during the pandemic, which was created by a psychology student living in Melbourne who was interested to hear about how COVID-19 was impacting on different peoples’ lives. -

Humor: People not on professional behavior when they work from home.
There is much humor in the new "work from home" systems. What goes on when the video screen is off? -

“It has made it a lot harder for me to continue practicing just everything..."
“It has made it a lot harder for me to continue practicing just everything just because I'm not really in Mass right now. So, they'll offer Mass online. It's just not the same because for me I have to have the Eucharist like the body and the blood and that's just how I get to that meditation zone where it's like I'm really here and it's just like me and god talking. I can't really feel that or get close just doing it from home watching a video. So, I do feel like I haven't been doing the best that I should be doing during these times.” -

Life during quarantine in the Coachella Valley
Our city is known as the City of Festivals; we host several festivals throughout the year. Two of the largest festivals, Coachella and Stagecoach, have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This means a great deal of money and jobs have been lost. Here in the Coachella Valley, we are considered a tourist region, so when tourists can't come or events are cancelled, it is devastating. I was supposed to work at both festivals to help subsidize income for my family. Now, that has been made unavailable. And I am left looking for other ways to bring necessary funds into my household. Not having the festivals and several other events at our many Casinos has been really disparaging. We also have hundreds of Golf courses and resorts. This has put a lot of our people out of work. This also brings a damper to all of the other resources that help make these festivals and events complete. All of the maintenance, food vendors, and other vendors have also lost out of money. I actually work at a Boys and Girls Club and we have been shut down since March 16th. Although, I am still getting paid, it has not been as much as it normally would and that has hurt our family. We have four clubhouses here in the Coachella Valley with thousands of students; having to see these kids not being able to get together and play and have a place to escape for a while has been difficult. We have implemented virtual clubhouse programs to help keep the community connected. Although, that has been made difficult because several of our more eastern cities are more rural. These cities do not have great internet service. Therefore, several students cannot access activities and/or even participate in distance-learning. It is really sad to see how some of our students have not been able to get the help they need. -

Day at The Lake
This is the road to a family lake near Loris, South Carolina. Built over 60 years ago the road is very worn down and the brush has grown up all around it, but it is still there. I went out there this past week just to clear my head after this past week. During, the Covid-19 season that we are stuck in I have found it necessary to get out and away to a place that you can breathe at. No news, Facebook, or Instagram just you and nature. Trust me it is a good way to keep sane.
