Covid Isolation
So one of my roommates got covid and because of that we had to self isolate ourselves in our rooms because we found out a couple days after he came back without taking a covid test to see if he had it before coming back. With that being said it was just very difficult to process and go through because there was 4 of us and only one could come out at a time making it very hard for us since we loved to communicate and talk to each other while watching shows in the living room yet now we had to just lock ourselves in our rooms not being able to see each other until my roommate was cleared. It is just hard to adjust right away to being locked in a room for weeks on end and because of it many can really get depressed and just feel awful at times. I wanted to highlight this because of how much of an impact just getting this virus has because some don't believe how bad it is but by now everyone should have realized how bad this pandemic really is for others that have it way worse. -

Conditions of Residency – HIST30060
This three-page document is an agreement that all residents of Ormond College had to sign upon their move in at the commencement of 2021. It details a number of expectations of behaviour of all students living on campus– including testing and self isolating when experiencing flu-like symptoms, ensuring social distancing is maintained, and acknowledging that any breach of said conditions could result in being asked to leave the college. Such a document indicates the changing nature of residential institutions, and the systems needed in order to limit the chances of an outbreak. While many of these conditions would have been unimaginable in early 2019, in 2021, many of them were simply seen as the norm for a communal living institution. HIST30060. -

My experience with covid
A few months back I started having covid symptoms so to be safe my family stayed far away from me and tried to bring me food or anything else I needed so I didn't have to leave my room. My symptoms ranged from the normal common ones all the way to the weird ones like my feet being freezing no matter what I did to heat them. Luckily none of them so bad I had to go to the hospital or anything. Covid soon started to go away and I had eventually tested negative but I wasn't done. For a few weeks, after I had caught another virus and had to deal with this with about the same symptoms besides the fact, my body now ached from being sick for this long without much motion in my day. not sure about date below -

When My Fever Broke
I fell seriously ill on March 23, 2020. I vividly remember my body being hit with extreme chills and my skin was hot to the touch. I remember being so cold that I needed two blankets to keep warm while experiencing a high fever. Even though I I felt deathly sick, I denied the thought of even having Covid for some reason. However, in the middle of the night I woke up coughing and I knew I had it. I immediately quarantined and contacted anyone that I had contact with to let them know that I might be infected with Covid-19. At the time, there wasn’t an easy way securing a test for Covid-19. A friend referred me to a private clinic to get tested. I was finally able to get tested on March 25, 2020 and the next day the doctor called me to tell me I tested positive with Covid-19. Fortunately for me, my worst day was the first night. I suffered a mild fever for about 7 days straight. This is the only photo I took during my whole quarantine. It’s a photo showing when my fever finally broke. When the thermometer showed a temperature 98.2 degrees, a wave of relief fell over me. It was so surreal at the time and I wanted to provide a snapshot of a moment in time of my Covid experience. -

Social distancing celebration birthday
I saw some videos on YouTube. A heartwarming new way of celebrating birthdays that self-isolation wasn’t going to stop the kids from feeling the love. Their neighbor and friends decorate their cars with balloons and banners, and drive by the birthday boy or girl’s home, honking and celebrating from a safe distance. -

Self-Isolation and Self-Reflection
It was all so sudden: we had just had our team banquet for basketball and we were getting ready to enter off-season, a time of having fun at practice and enjoying the time away from it with friends before summer comes along and the fun can truly begin. Then about a week after we got the email saying that in-class learning was to be postponed until after Spring Break. At first we were happy, like any student, not having to go to school and not having to practice. However that period stretched from the beginning of April to May, and then to the end of the school year, and now we don't even know if we're going to be able to return for the next school year like usual. It took away the practices that we usually have everyday, it took away the time I had to just grind it out with my teammates, with my brothers, it took away to get better and grow both individually and as a team. It's one of those things that you don't appreciate until it's taken away from you. It also has taken away the hope of coming back together for summer-league, as summer sports programs have been cancelled due to the pandemic. We may not even have a regular season. Then the hardship of not being able to go out and spend time with friends is something that I, along with many other people have to endure. It's painful to have to deal with, and many people are advocating for the end of quarantine. I'm not gonna say it's right or not, but I feel like it's only right to end it when it's deemed safe to do so, and we shouldn't try to rush it because it'll only hurt us more. Then the recent events of police brutality with the death of George Floyd has sparked uprisings by the black community and many others that support the movement. There are many sides to take in the controversy, and there are also many ways to go about dealing with it. Despite the conflicting opinions, I hope that we can resolve this without causing more harm than help. -

A Twitter post suggesting use of an alternate term for self-isolation.
A Twitter post by user @Sarklor suggesting why we should say we've been 'exiled for the good of the realm' instead of saying we're self-isolating. I think this is a funny way to refer to self-isolation. Use of humor can also be a good way to get people to practice self-isolating when they would rather not. I think it fosters a community surrounding something we're all going through in our own bubbles. #HST580 #ASU #Twitter #Humor -

Potential Exposure in the Lower Sioux Indian Community of Minnesota
“The Lower Sioux Indian Community in the State of Minnesota’s (“Community”) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) received voluntary notification of a potential exposure risk in the Community this previous weekend. Those individuals that were potentially exposed were notified by Health and Human Services and are voluntarily self-isolating in their homes. As part of our community response model, these individuals will be receiving daily phone calls from the community health nurse to monitor for symptoms. Social Services representatives are calling every 3 days to ensure that basic needs are being met and to offer support.” #IndigenousStories -

Hunting Season Makes Social Distancing Difficult in Russian Native Village (В Хангаласском районе выявили 4 новых случая заражения коронавирусом)
“Over the past 24 hours, 4 new cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the Khangalassky district . Over the entire period, COVID-19 was diagnosed in 8 people, according to the operational headquarters of the republic. New cases of coronavirus in the Khangalassky district are associated with an ophthalmic hospital. After the coronavirus was discovered in the clinic, a resident of the Khangalassky district, who had previously been treated in this clinic, was placed in the observatory….The headquarters has established over 100 contacts. Of these, 93 people were in contact with the first cases, 9 people - with a patient in an ophthalmological hospital….As the head of the district noted, among the contact persons there are also those who met with a resident of the city of Yakutsk, who later confirmed COVID-19. Despite the order of Rospotrebnadzor to observe the regime of self-isolation, the townspeople went to his relatives in the village of Ulakhan-An of the Khangalassky region for hunting, after which he returned to the capital of the republic. Here he was informed of the positive results of the analysis. Today, the local resident, with whom the sick man was hunting, is placed in the observatory, the remaining 4 people are on self-isolation at the place of residence.” #IndigenousStories -

Self isolation before it was labeled a pandemic
I'm an American living abroad in China, so we went through the pandemic a bit before everyone else. After I'd spent twenty five days in Hong Kong (originally intended to be a nine day holiday for Chinese New Year) with my boyfriend, we flew back to Shanghai because things seemed to be getting better over here. Regardless, we still came back to a lot of uncertainty. We were assuming that his apartment complex would be enforcing a stricter lockdown than mine (at this point, basically each apartment complex and neighborhood were setting their own rules). What I didn't expect was for me to be the one "trapped" at home and feeling anxious about the situation unfolding. As I eventually calmed my nerves, I decided to start channeling the anxiety into creative channels such as cooking and also this bullet journal. In many ways, these two hobbies have been incredibly therapeutic as they provide a way for me to feel like I have some sort of control when in reality, who knows what will happen? With time, I've been able to see how lucky we were here in Shanghai to have escaped the worst of the pandemic, but that same anxiety and not knowing what will change, how long this will last, etc continues as the virus rages on around the world. -

Russia 2020. Our government decided that it’s better not to have “Emergency situation” and official quarantine. Russian citizens instead have “self-isolation”.In this case we all need to stay home, BUT no money were added to our accounts, no food provided from government or any kind of support at all. Instead, they decided that citizens without job, money and support need to pay fines every time they are on the street. What a great idea! And just before COVID-19 Russian Ruble felt dramatically because our government decided to have even more oil then before...Thanks again. Now we have: millions of poor people trying to survive, billioners get more money than before, government has more money from fines, but none spent on citizens, all small business shut down and have no chance to recover. In this situation any other country would help their own citizens. But Russia as a very generous country sent help to China,USA,Italy and other countries. Don’t worry, we don’t have sufficient quantity of doctors and medical resources, medicine in Russia will survive somehow. So would people. And everything after this pandemia...not going to change. Our country forgot about us. -

Self-isolation desk
As an Australian who has just arrived back from overseas (Thailand) on 20 March 2020, I am required to self-isolate for 14 days. As I am sharing a small one-bedroom inner urban apartment. I need to stick to my own room, while my fellow inhabitant lives in the lounge room. I’m also a PhD student in the final throes of trying to get my thesis done and do various casual research jobs at two different universities. This is my makeshift desk set up at the side of the bed to enable me to hopefully get some work done throughout this uncertain period. I also have a tiny 1.5mx2m space set up on the other side of the bed to try to do some yoga during the isolation period.
