My Sedentary Lifestyle Prepared me for What Came
In the year of the pandemic I was not aware of everything that was occurring all around me, I did not watch the news; however, I did get news updates on my phone and people would tell me what was going on. I was working as a personal attendant at an elementary school when covid began, and I did not feel the effects that covid 19 has been changing society, the community that I lived in, and in my life until the lockdown began where everyone had to stay inside their houses. Before the lockdown began I was living a sedentary lifestyle where I would spend the whole day inside the house on my phone or watching TV, so staying in my house was an everyday thing for me and many of my family members and friends did not live near me, so I would always call them; however, I have heard about a couple of family members who I have grown up with mention to me that they had covid and before I returned to work after the lockdown was over my mother tested positive for covid, so this is when covid 19 was hitting hard to me because many people that I was close to were getting sick, when my mother was sick I began to worry whether I had covid 19, because I fell ill before her, however, I tested negative for covid 19 which I admit was a huge relief for me, but I was worried about my mothers well being, until she felt better. In news updates I heard about a lot of people who lost their jobs, and places that were shut down, because of the pandemic, so I felt fortunate to still have employment at the elementary school even if my hours were shorter than before because of the changed school hours, but I still felt fortunate that I still had employment and that none of my friends or family lost their lives to covid 19. When I first heard about the lockdown it was when I realized how truly serious the situation was, many people had trouble staying inside their houses during the lockdown; however, I always stayed inside on my phone, playing video games, and watching TV so remaining in my house was never such an issue for me since this was part of my everyday life so my sedentary lifestyle is what prepared me and got me through the lockdown during covid 19. -

Tennis Is Done With Covid-19, but the Virus Isn’t Done With Tennis
This is a news story from The New York Times by Matthew Futterman. This story chronicles the changes tennis has gone through during the pandemic. Compared to other professional sports, tennis has been one of the sports with restrictions applied the longest Novak Djokovic, one of the top tennis players in the world, is noted for his refusal of the COVID vaccine. This caused controversy in 2021 at the Australia Open, where his refusal to get vaccinated resulted in his deportation. The Australian government was worried that his refusal would embolden others. The rest of the article goes on about what other tennis players have said about the restrictions, and what they mean for the sport. Some of the tennis players expressed not paying attention to restrictions as much as they used to, and wanting to live like they used to. -

A never ending battle on COVID-19
It’s been nearly two years since the start of the pandemic, and if you ask some people, the state of this disaster hasn’t improved a whole lot. I turned 20 a few days ago, which marks my second birthday that has passed since the official start of Covid, which if I’m remembering correctly was March 13th, 2020. I’ll never forget the announcement made over the Pine Richland High School loudspeakers that day. Sitting in the back of the statistics classroom, the statement told us that we would have no school for the next two weeks, which at the time beat any time off we’d ever had prior. Fast forward two years later and we still wear masks indoors. We still have to wash or sanitize our hands after just about any surface we touch to hope we don’t get the virus. Even more importantly, I haven’t been able to see some of my family for years now. Driving all the way out to New York would be risky since they aren’t in the best health, and it’s not worth taking any chances with how bad this virus can be for some people. The worst part of it all has to be that we don’t know when this is going to end. It’s been long enough that the pandemic has become political, with rivalries between those who choose and refuse to get the vaccine, but will it ever stop? Will there ever be a point in time that we can all feel safe enough to be able to do anything without living in fear of this virus? I never expected to be sitting here years after this all started writing how just about anything is still affected by Covid, but I guess I’ve gotten used to it. After all of this, though, the whole “you never know what you got until it’s gone” saying really does remain true. -

The Perspective of a Drunk Teenager on COVID-19: Snapchat Memory
This was a Snapchat Memory I found from the end of the 1st week of the initial Covid lockdown. I was bored, so I got drunk in my closet by myself to have a good time. I found this video to be insightful to my perspective of how I felt about Covid at the time. -

Thoughts on Covid-19 Vaccine and Blood Clots: Social Media Screenshot
As someone who has studied the history of disease and epidemics, I know that disease causes widespread fear and panic. The uncertainties and unknowns of disease cause people to question themselves, others, and even medical professionals. Sometimes, questioning and being skeptical is what saved lives. For example, questioning Dr. Rush's treatment methods in the yellow fever epidemic of Philadelphia or questioning miasma theory during the outbreaks of cholera in London. Recently, there have been cases of blood clots as a result of the Covid-19 vaccine. This is a screenshot of what WHO has to say about the blood clots and a comment from myself. While I would love to get the vaccine, and I was originally hopeful about getting it, I'm not too scared and unsure what to do. Although WHO says cases of blood clots are rare, there are still many people like myself who are skeptical and only want to make the right decision for their own health and life. With talk of possible mandated vaccines, I am uncertain about what the future will look like for me and others like me. -

I secretly love Covid-19
Top 20 Good Things about Covid-19: 1. Peace and quiet 2. Much less traffic 3. Pollution is way down 4. Gas companies are upset 5. Spoiled children are depressed 6. Republican suicide-by-liberation is a thing 7. The vast majority of jobs are inessential 8. No professional sports, AKA stupid distractions 9. Familial bond forging 10. My alcoholic neighbors don't warm up their two cars - a giant, rumbling Ford F150 and a two door Mini Cooper with a modified (AKA much louder) muffler - right outside my bedroom window for 20 minutes at 6:30AM every weekday morning 11. Mother Nature won't go down without a fight 12. Rich people forced to pay poor people 13. The airline industry, a wasteful and destructive industry that pollutes like crazy, is suffering 14. Cruise ships, modern monstrosities of disgusting opulence that helped the virus spread, are also hurting 15. Real leaders have distinguished themselves 16. The quality of art is directly proportional to the suffering of the artist 17. No mass shootings 18. Sales of bidets way up 19. "light and heat" might kill the virus. Or maybe injections of bleach? Trump wants to look into those ideas, as they come from a mind whose uncle taught at MIT. So, y'know, he just innately understands complex doctor knowledge. Comforting! 20. No need to make up excuses for not visiting grandparents -

Late-Night Talks
Ever since the Coronavirus has taken over the country, everyone has been on lockdown in their homes. These past few weeks have turned into a swarm of conference calls, virtual happy hours, and late-night video chats. It has made me miss my friends even more than I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, it has made me thankful for my family as well. It is hard to not be able to see my friends and peers every day, like what I am used to. One of my friends who lives in Virginia has been feeling a little bit lonely too, so we have been talking every night for a couple nights in a row. We talk about everything under the sun. We talk about religion, different jobs, and what the world will be like after this pandemic is over. We also share our favorite memories from school, reminisce on old memories from previous years, and we talk about whatever is on our mind. Even though we are not together in person, it feels like we are hanging out like we normally would. Talking online is going to be the new normal for teenagers like me, who cannot go out and see friends. Having people to talk to online makes me feel like I am not alone in this crazy world we are living in right now. Everyone else is dealing with the same thing, and we are all in this together.
