The global pandemic has been hard on so many people and has forced everyone in the world to adjust their lives to what is going around in the air. It has been especially hard to assimilate to the new way of college. Luckily I just finished my sophomore year at DePaul, but for many of my close friends their times at DePaul have come to an end. It has been a sudden and abrupt end to their college years. They went from working and hanging with friends to stuck at home and not being able to live up the last year of college with friends they have spent college with. This has been tough for everyone to see close friends have to leave a place they have been accustomed to for 4 years and to leave the ones who have built some of the deepest and closest friendships people can experience. COVID 19 has robbed the seniors of the pinnacle of their college life.

Many other deliveries like Doordash, Amazon, and different sellers are using this policy to protect people from the virus in this special period.

Wenliang Li was a doctor ophthalmologist who warned about the outbreak of COVID-19. Born in Beizhen, China, on Oct 12, 1986, he died after becoming infected with SARS-CoV-2 in Wuhan, China, on Feb 7, 2020, aged 33 years. On Dec 30, 2019, Li Wenliang sent a message to a group of fellow doctors warning them about a possible outbreak of an illness that resembled severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in Wuhan, Hubei province, China, where he worked. In fact, Li was one of the first people to recognize the outbreak of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Wuhan. Li returned to work after signing the statement and was infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ( SARS-CoV-2), obviously from the patient. His death caused an uproar in China. The Chinese people expressed their gratitude for Li Guangyao's full-time service on the message board and criticized the preliminary reaction of Wuhan public security and medical staff to the warning. In the days before his death, Lee said in an interview with The New York Times: "If officials disclosed information about the epidemic earlier, I think the situation would be much better." He said: "Should There is more openness and transparency." I think Dr. Li made a major help that cannot be ignored for this outbreak, but it was not recognized in the early stages. I saw this scene in a video posted on Instagram about the line of people waiting for shopping in Costco Wholesale before the pandemic lockdown. I surprised by how people are seriously prepared and reacted to the Covid-19 and tried their best to be safe and prepared for the quarantine.

Before the lockdown, I planned to travel to visit my family and booked a flight ticket. I didn't know that the flight date was after the lockdown situation. Because I planned everything and bought the ticket already, I decided to stick to the plan and went to the airport. Surprisingly, it was like a ghost town with just a few people. On the plane, there was just 2 more passengers and me who still tried to sit 3 rows away from the other to follow the safety rule. It was quite an adventure!

I would like to talk about how I feel about the restriction of flight as a student. First of all, because of the global COVID-19 situation, everyone is living under anxiety and expecting when is it going to over? And our schools are very thoughtful, they considered that people might going back to their home country and stay quarantine, all the lectures becomes inline. But when I saw the news about the restriction, I started to worry when is it going to over. Is it gonna stop when the COVID-19 is cured?

This picture shows my desperation and helplessness as an international student from China, and what I can do to protect me from being infected by the virus. I believe that international students from China in the US during the Coronavirus crisis suffer most. Since the beginning of the 2020, we worried about the safety and health of our family in China; during the March to April, when virus spread rapidly across the US, we were restricted from going back home; and even if we went back home, we still encountered discrimination and misunderstanding of other Chinese people. In the US, we are also the loneliest and most vulnerable groups—we were all afraid of getting out, so we had quarantine at home by ourselves. To prevent us from being infected, we started to have Chinese herbal medicine (as showed in the photo). I drank the medicine for nearly a month because the medicine was the only things I had to make me feel safe and relieved.

First of all, because of the virus, every country is doing their best to try to contain the contagion, and the flights between countries are limited. So first of all, it is very difficult to get a ticket to get home. Secondely, the photo is I wear the protection suit, with goggles and N95 face masks in order to protect myself and others. But it feels really un comfortable, and it takes total over 35 hour from US to China (I have to transfer at Korea).

Businesses, such as grocery stores, have taken precautions such as having plexiglass shields and only accepting electronic payments to avoid the spread of the virus. Some, like the woman in this post, feel that this infringes upon their rights and calls for a boycott of such businesses. This woman additionally refers to her post as “exposing the modern new life,” indicating how safety standards and a person’s choice whether to abide has become politicized. The person who shared this post on reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook mockingly calls the poster “Karen,” and states she “died of starvation two weeks later.”

Americans who were opposed to the closure due to Coronavirus have become more vocal about group gatherings in light of the Black Lives Matters protests. In this post, taken from reddit.com/r/insanepeoplefacebook, the person questions why carnivals aren’t allowed to open, but protests are not being stopped. The Reddit poster sarcastically points out that standing against police brutality is different from going to a county fair.

With the Black Lives Matters protests happening, Coronavirus skeptics question why there are suddenly no safety considerations. The underlying tone is that the fear was over exaggerated. People are still cautious of the fact that the virus transmits easier indoors than outdoors.

Due to schools moving to online only education, there is no longer a need for dining services at schools. This is Santa Barbara City College's outdoor dining area, which has been stripped as maintenance activities have been cut back. Even though non students often come to the school to take walks and enjoy the scenery, the entire school is empty and devoid of people.

Tan Cha is a popular boba tea shop chain. This is the newly opened Irvine location. They have prepared tables and seats for indoor seating but are unable to utilize them due to the ban on dining in. To facilitate social distancing, all the tables and chairs have been shoved to the walls, leaving an unusually large open floor in the middle.

Because of the COVID-19, our university makes the lectures online, and then I went back to China. But according to the regulation for everyone's good. Publics who come from abroad need to stay in the assigned hotel for 14 days for quarantine. And I did that, it was so long for me to stay in a single room for almost half a month.

There were certain events/celebrations that I had spent four years waiting and getting excited for, that I was supposed to have, that I will never get to experience. As a drama major, I was supposed be have my first leading role in a show in college. In my sorority, there were all these senior-only events that I had been looking forward to since freshman year that I had thought about for so long. During the pandemic I was the one that people hated the most: I traveled between China and the State because of my international student status. I luckily had my chance to go back to China before things went down in the states, meanwhile things were alleviated greatly on the other side. And as I was waiting for the plane in the airport, I saw people wearing not only face masks, but also protective suits and safety googles. Considering that this is before the coming out of face-covering requirement in California, I feel the fear everywhere around me. Yet, I was not surprised to see these protections. When many people said that Covid-19 is a scam and wearing face masks took away human rights, these people showed the world what does real protection mean.

After two recent deaths of our pets and the ability to be home 24/7, we decided to foster-to-adopt a kitten. His name is Kedzie, intentionally named after the Chicago street. My family is comprised of three busy adults with varying schedules, so now we are able to spend genuine time with him. Obviously exaggerated but still genuinely funny. The Outfit meme is from the first day of June in the wake of protests across the country.
