Where should I start? 2020, the year my classmates and I were supposed to graduate. The last couple of months where we could spend time with friends, teachers, and counselors who helped us get through another day. Instead everything was cut short and taken from us. It was taken from a virus, and even though I care much about my health and others around me, I just wished there was something that could have been done so we as well could enjoy our last couple months and days. As by now, we all know that none of the event other than graduation will be moved and administration will try their best for this to happen. Next week, Thursday 5/28/2020 Seniors will finally have their last day. Friday 5/29/2020 Senior will go to the High School to get their cap and gown. As someone who has been in the same town, going to the same schools it saddens me that all the hard work will simply be lost. As sad as I am that our class will not be able to experience the full senior year, I am glad for the staff that I have met through my four years. I am grateful for each and everyone. For the ones who had to go through my sass freshman year. To the ones that have seen me grow. Especially to the ones who have seen me struggles and continued to help me through it all and helped me be able to graduate. Thank you staff of Watertown High School, much love to all who have been there for me.

Grocery shopping has become an experience. At the grocery store floor guides direct the flow of traffic and spacing. Masks were required in this grocery store. My 82 year old grandmother has been diagnosed with a giant aortic aneurysm that has grown. Originally, surgery was not an option because of her age. Due to the growth the surgery has been scheduled to be performed at Stanford Medical Center. The surgery could be fatal and family has worked arranged her funeral in advance. Covid-19 has made the process of saying goodbye difficult. I decided to shelter-in-place with her for a long weekend. We used the time to go over family photos, listen to stories, enjoy eachother. We spent Saturday painting together. She has been an artist her entire life, this is her love language. Occasionally grabbing the brush from my hand to guide a watercolor shadow or highlight, she makes it look effortless. We said goodbye knowing it may be the last time we see each-other. The hospital will not allow for family to accompany her for her surgery or recovery. Waiting is all that can be done. Her name is Janice Simone Simon. She is 83 years old and the matriarch of our family. She is loved. Covid-19 has changed the way we say goodbye.

This is some chalk art I created with my younger sister during the beginning of quarantine. Before we were stuck at home 24/7, I never would have thought to just go outside and color the driveway, or at least since I was 10 years old. Since the beginning of quarantine, I, and probably many others, have been seeking fun in lots of new ways. I personally have found myself turning to activities that I would typically do as a child. Although the pandemic has had quite the negative impact on the world, there is definitely some good that has come with it. I feel that many of us, including myself, have found ourselves outside in nature more than we had been before, as we are sort of forced to look for entertainment in different ways since we can’t be around many people at this time. They say in Vermont, if you don’t like the weather, just wait five minutes for it to change. I haven’t found it true of clouds or rain, but the news is on an hourly refresh: constantly changing, though never for the better. The world’s gone to dog time. Days have telescoped to weeks. Last week feels like a different era entirely, when kids went to school, businesses stayed open, you could grab lunch in town or take the cat to the vet. After days of pouring over graphs, I could redraw contagion curves from memory, but it all seems strangely theoretical. The number of reported cases in Vermont is still less than a block in Wuhan or Milan. And it’s never that busy here, so the towns look pretty much normal. Nationally and worldwide, the deaths are still lower than the flu, lower than heart disease, lower than car accidents, and yet the trajectories explode like a flushed grouse. While these fears, statistics, and calculations swoop through my brain, the real birds have returned: lines of geese, honking encouragement as they struggle against the wind; gangs of grackles, blackbirds and starlings descending on our feeders and glistening in the cloudy half-light. We should really bring our feeders in, as the warmth has awakened the bears. Last year the ground was frozen nearly until May. This year the snow vanished a few days before the pandemic arrived, winter evaporating as quickly as our former lives. My husband and kids, home all the time now, help me rake away last year’s leaves, uncovering bright shoots of daffodils, and yellow and purple crocuses already blooming. Soon the frogs will shout their odes to fertility from every pond, sending out an aural map of still water. Each time I go outside, my spirits lift, just a little, as non-human life goes on the way it always has, and the world tilts slowly toward warmth.

Living through COVID-19 has been a challenge for me a lot of things have changed and gotten way harder for me. I was getting comfortable with staying home. I have found myself and kept giving myself breaks and trying to get my body back to the old me. On Monday it was my birthday it didn't feel like it because everything is closed and we are on lockdown. My family still tried to make that day special for me. On Tuesday I and my family laid a close friend of my brother to rest. It has been a very hard time for my family at this time everyone has been together spending time with each other. Lately I have been thinking about my future about how it's going to be after COVID-19 because right now COVID-19 has me unsure. After one semester online courses got me so stressed, and confused. It has been a journey this whole time during COVID-19. Things are going good for me then it goes bad right now my granny is in the hospital she has not been feeling well. I want to be with my granny but I can't because of the COVID-19 rules. I have been talking to my granny through the phone. I have been feeling down lately because of my life outside of school. I have been feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated like never before.

I did a podcast based on my journey through the Coronavirus of the struggle I was dealing with my schoolwork. The whole process was complicated, I had some time where I was struggling with being motivated with my schoolwork. But I pushed through it. The podcast was beneficial because I was able to reflect on my day and talk freely about how I feel. Overall, it was a great experience.

Contra Costa County in California issued an ordinance requiring patrons to wear masks when entering any open essential business during the shelter in place order which began March 13, 2020. Teachers in Fairfield are required to clean out their classrooms with school closure for the remainder of the year. Daycare's are closed and many teachers are forced to bring their children with them to pack up their classroom. This U.S. History classroom is normally full of vibrant students. The distance requirements in the district mandate that educators pre-schedule pack-up times so a limited number of teachers are on campus at a time. Canyon Bell (Pictured) is helping mommy clean. Teachers in Fairfield were ordered to clean out their classrooms starting the week of May 18th. Entering the school looked like a time capsule with announcements for prom, spirit week, and senior field trips dating back to May 13th, the day before Sem Yeto continuation school was shut down.

Educators are prohibited from entering schools in much of California. Distance meetings are numerous. Today, Teacher Dana Bell meets with educators at Sem Yeto continuation high-school are meeting to plan for next years WASC visit, a task that can not wait till school resumes. Working from home is a challenge many educators are facing. This meeting was disrupted several times by the participants children and pets. The Norman, Oklahoma UPS Store has changed their policy customer capacity per CDC guidelines to encourage six foot social distancing. This particular store only allows in three customers at a time. On previous days there has been as many as ten people waiting in line inside while others use the mail box section or shop their shipping supplies. This limit of three customers is designed specifically for the six foot social distancing practice to be observed. Numerous floor signs depicting rules for social distancing were observed in the Newcastle, Oklahoma Walmart. Of these floor signs, four different designs were displayed. Each of these signs are focused on alerting customers and directing foot traffic to encourage social distancing during COVID-19. The long blue signs were placed along high foot traffic areas to remind customers of the 6 Foot Social Distancing rules. Other signs were displayed at the ends of aisles directing shoppers to enter (green) on designated ends and exit out (red - do not enter) on the other end. The traffic rules were displayed throughout the store. The smaller blue square signs mark social distancing areas in the checkout sections.
