A fuzzy, through the trees picture of my neighbor's white pick up truck the day after he was finally arrested for something ; the police are called there a lot. This truck is a dingy white and the springs squeak loudly when it bounces across the gravel driveway. The property has 2 trailers and 2 RV's and people come and go all day long. There is an 85 year old woman who lives in one of the trailers. The owner of this white truck is doing renovations on the property. He goes back and forth as if it is still an ordinary time, leaving the property 6,7,8 times a day, those springs squeaking down the drive. In Albert Camus' the Plague the Dr feels that he can hear the sound of the plague rats in the labored breathing of one of his patients. That truck's springs sound like the wheezing of the Coronavirus to me. I call it the Pale Horse. And he who rode upon it was Death.

This is a picture of me boiling our face masks after they have been worn. We boil them for 10 minutes after every time they have been worn then hang them up to dry. Every member of the household has three masks so there are always dry ones. We call the process of boiling them making Face Soup and joke that if we run out of food we can always make a broth out of it. Our statue of the Food-a looks on with a Zen like patience.

how many state parks in the state of North Carolina are closed due to covid-19

A local pizza place called Rosatis Pizza has begun to give out a free roll of toliet paper for every order. When my family ordered dinner from there we had no idea they were doing this. It is weird to think about how just a few months ago if a pizza place gave out a roll of toliet paper it would have been very strange, but now in the current environment created by the pandemic it is a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. It shows how values have changed during the pandemic and the importance of still trying to support local businesses as best as we can, and in return the businesses are doing what they can to show their appreciate for consumer support during the pandemic.

People are being encouraged to sign up for CSA (community supported agriculture) to support local farmers and eat healthy during the pandemic. People stocked up at the grocery store when the pandemic started so it became harder for people to buy certain items. Those who lost jobs have been struggling even more to be able to afford food. #NortheasternJOTPY

Short essay celebrating creativity during the pandemic

This is a picture of Donald Trump speaking before the media. At this meeting, he was discussing the ability for states to open back up as they please. Now as we are into May, some states have begun that process.

With the lack of masks being sold in and through stores, people have now been making small businesses of their own by sewing and making them. People have gotten really creative with their masks lately. I've seen bandanas, scarves, and oddly enough plastic shields over their faces. Currently, our local Walmart is being cleaned out of all its fabric. Last time I checked it was pretty much empty. People are taking orders for others and selling homemade masks. I have 3 co-workers who sell them, one even sells ones with sports team patterns. I just bought a patriots one for my grandma. I just never thought about people making a living off of masks, its a good time for people to learn how to sew if anything.

The male dummy in a local tailor's shop which rents tuxedos has a custom mask. Normally they would be busy with prom rentals and alterations, but there are no proms this year. A sign in the window (not pictured) stated that they were making custom masks, and gave a phone number to call to order some.

Since self-isolation began for my household, my husband and I have started doing crosswords from the NYT (New York Times) with friends via Zoom. We can share our screens and complete the puzzles together. It has been good way to exercise our brains and connect with others. I'd be curious to see if subscriptions for the NYT Crossword, which has its own separate subscription option, have increased in the last few weeks.

This image was taken by me on one if my walks around a local park. I have been going to this park since I was three years old. Ever since the stay-at-home order was give for NC at the end of March I have noticed a much greater diversity in the demographics of people who visit the park.Traditionally the park would be populated by younger children, around elementary and middle school aged, along with young parents and their children. Now people of all types and ages frequent the park in an attempt to help normalize and adjust the the changes caused by the pandemic. Something I never expected to enjoy while going to the park is being able to see so many different people playing happily and making the best of the situation. Seeing others adjusting to the pandemic, in a way helps me accept the normalization of the changing social dynamics that have been created.

The woman in the picture who seems to be a health care worker who is also a mother is crying as she is torn away from beating able to hug and kiss her child because of the possibility of being infected after working in the hospital with coronavirus patients. This picture is especially special because it touches upon the hardships that health care workers are facing after working with patients all-day and not being able to have that relief of coming home and being comforted by their family members. I was down to my last roll of toilet paper. I had ordered more but knew it may not come for another two weeks... something had to be done. First I went to Fry's… No toilet paper, Then Safeway and Target...no toilet paper. I had almost been defeated but decided to try out Walmart. As I was walking in I saw about five police cruisers parked in front of the store. As I approach the toilet paper aisle I am greeted by an officer telling me to wait in line if I wanted toilet paper. After a short wait I make out with a 24 pack. #REL101
