With music festivals being canceled and venues closed during the coronavirus outbreak, fans are yearning for some live music while they self-quarantine. Thankfully, many artists are turning to the internet to continue to reach their fans. KEXP is collecting a calendar of upcoming live streaming video concerts. We encourage viewers to utilize any digital tip jars or links to purchase music and merchandise, as many of these performers are losing income by not being able to tour. Please note: times and dates are subject to change.

This pandemic is limiting our choices of what to do in the outside world. My family and I are running out of things to do and it's driving us insane. We are usually an adventurous family so during this quarantine, it has allowed us to be creative. I love art and I've had time to indulge in it again. This time my family decided to join me. We had been binge-watching abstract art a little while before trying it. It was messy but, this is what we created. This was the perfect bonding time and it was really fun. Quarantine has brought out our inner artist!

This image is one that has been shared by a bar in the Chicago suburbs, showing thanks to people for supporting small business. I find it interesting because the business does not know that the reader of this sign has in fact supported small, local businesses. Instead, it reads like when your mom says “thanks for unloading the dishwasher” as a way of asking you to unload the dishwasher. #DePaulHST391

The picture I have included in this post is a copy of the email sent out to many of the upcoming Disney College Program Participants. Unfortunately, all the future Disney Cast Members who were scheduled to arrive in May were notified that their program was cancelled.
I was accepted to participate in the Disney College Program for the Fall Program, and I am supposed to arrive in August. Due to my arrival date, my program is still scheduled to proceed as planned. My heart goes out to all the students who had gotten their hopes up and made plans to work and live in Disney World for the rest of the year. I can’t fathom how devastating that must be for them. And, while this cancellation doesn’t directly affect me, it does scare me. Even though my program is still scheduled to proceed, that could change any day and I too could receive the devastating email stating that my program has been cancelled. Honestly, I don’t really know how to feel. While I’m happy that I am still scheduled to go, I know that it could be taken away from me at any minute. I am truly sorry for the Spring 2020 and Fall Advantage 2020 students whose programs were cut short or completely cancelled.
In response to this email, my student advisor thought that it would be a good idea to register for Fall 2020 classes at my college just in case the Disney College Program doesn’t work. While I’m glad that I have a plan to fall back on if necessary, I wish I didn’t have to. When I received my acceptance email to the Disney College Program, it was one of the most exciting moments of my life because this is something that I have wanted to do for years. And the thought that it could be taken away and I would have to come up with a Plan B is really disheartening.

When I was shopping in Target, people were in and out of the aisles grabbing whatever food they could get. I walked through all the aisles to see what was available. I had to call my parents multiple times to see if they were okay with substitutions.

This document is a way for people to color code and assess people’s situations. A color-coded system in smaller neighborhoods could help neighbors reach out to each other and assist with grocery shopping and errands as some people are more at-risk than others. This was a neighborhood initiative in West Virginia. #NortheasternJOTPY

As early as March 1st, I realized I needed to treat my family home as a self isolation unit. My mother has only 1 functioning kidney, COPD, Heart Disease & significant history of cardiac surgeries. However, she has a good quality of life and frightened by what I was telling her of the virus. I read research and accounts from Italy and with no US response I ordered sanitizing agents, surgical scrub and gloves along with trauma first aid kits and things to keep us out of a hospital. The Pandemic Diary begins with a list of places to focus on cleaning.

This is a vivid graphic in bright greens. Similar to public health educational posters: easy to read, point contradicts common thinking. In this case it’s taking doctors and nurses down a peg—the ones getting public applause and thank yous right now in the pandemic—and lists all of the other people who care for the sick, injured, dying, and those getting well. They should be seen as heroes too.. Top of the list: respiratory therapists. A group of workers whose expertise is extremely important in covid19 and that many had never heard of or thought about. A long list of people keep a hospital going. At the bottom are the CEOs, nurses, and doctors—the ones we traditionally think of as important and running the show. As a historian of medicine, I admit that I fall into it too.
This is an excellent message. I’d put the cleaners and janitorial staff much higher on the list. They are crucial in keeping infectious diseases from spreading. And they are surely the most poorly paid.
