Each year on March 19th, Angelo Brocato Ice Cream and Confectionery, located in New Orleans, LA, celebrates St. Joseph's Day by erecting an altar to St. Joseph in their bakery shop. This year they make connections between the current Covid-19 pandemic and the famine that took place in Sicily over 500 years ago. St. Joseph's Day is one of the busiest times of the year for the bakery, with folks purchasing specialty cookies and pastries for celebrations and altars.

I live in a house isolated from family and have many things I feel I need to do in order to care for myself and my family properly who live across town. I am still going to work where I potentially expose myself. The process of meticulously caring for myself before, during and after work has taken a lot of time and energy, but I am meticulously attempting to care for my health in every moment. Please bear with me as I try to catch up with the assigned work you have given in the next few days (before Friday), which I find very interesting and well written, but also detailed and requiring thorough reading.
If you feel that I am too far behind, or have failed at attendance, please advise and I will try to drop the class by the due date. Many thanks and stay safe.

Ever since the Coronavirus has taken over the country, everyone has been on lockdown in their homes. These past few weeks have turned into a swarm of conference calls, virtual happy hours, and late-night video chats. It has made me miss my friends even more than I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, it has made me thankful for my family as well. It is hard to not be able to see my friends and peers every day, like what I am used to. One of my friends who lives in Virginia has been feeling a little bit lonely too, so we have been talking every night for a couple nights in a row. We talk about everything under the sun. We talk about religion, different jobs, and what the world will be like after this pandemic is over. We also share our favorite memories from school, reminisce on old memories from previous years, and we talk about whatever is on our mind. Even though we are not together in person, it feels like we are hanging out like we normally would. Talking online is going to be the new normal for teenagers like me, who cannot go out and see friends. Having people to talk to online makes me feel like I am not alone in this crazy world we are living in right now. Everyone else is dealing with the same thing, and we are all in this together.

I think it is time that we all look to our families and be thankful for the people and life we have been given because none of it is ever guaranteed. Each day we watch news reports vigilantly and hope for good news, but so far, there has been very little. Our lives have undoubtedly been changed and may never return to what we once knew as normal. However, the only way for us to move forward and collectively face this challenge is together. Being thankful for the sacrifices of ever person who continues to work and serve in their own capacity is essential to maintaining our increasingly fragile economy and community as a whole. There has to be a light at the end of the tunnel, right? All we can do is hope.

I didn't think to take a picture at the time, but while out for a walk I saw a paper shopping bag at the end of a driveway. It had "free beans" written in black marker on the side, and lo and behold the grocery bag was full of lots of bags of beans!
It's a great thing to do, and I didn't need anything so I walked on without thinking too much about what it all meant. I'm in San Jose, CA which is in one of the first counties to order a Shelter in Place. Everyday it feels like reported cases are skyrocketing, and then they go up further.
I was walking around a poorer neighborhood. Stores are so close to empty of food (and puzzles) and many people don't have cars to load up and panic buy for long stretches.
Of course, I can't know what the exact experience of the gift giver was. But I know that they put the community above their own needs, and they didn't even need to be thanked for it. Could have kept the beans for themselves, for sure. They trusted that those who would take the beans would need the food more than they did, and that the rest of us wouldn't be greedy. After all, it's hard to be greedy when you are surrounded by such selfless people.

I took this picture when my family moved into our new townhouse in Rock Hill. We had already planned to move to our new place before the COVID-19 outbreak, so we decided to follow through with our plan. This photo of my bedroom was taken shortly after we moved in, which explains why my room is filled with boxes and other stuff. While our move still went on as scheduled, our packing process was somewhat disrupted by COVID-19. Because we are practicing social-distancing, none of our friends or extended family were able to help us pack and upload during our move. My mother was the most upset by this because she wasn't able to say goodbye to any of her friends before we moved. Overall, our move has been successful, but COVID-19 has prevented us from exploring our new city and neighboring areas.
