February 2020 was the last month before everything would change. Then, I went to comfortably to school, played with my friends, went to public places, and much more. I remember thinking about how much I used to dislike going to school and classes but now, I would give anything to go back there. Toward the end of that month, news was spreading about a new virus going around and I never thought much about it.
In March, the virus began rapidly spreading and businesses and schools began to close. This included mine. It was exciting to begin a new experience at first but I hope I can go back and make more memories at school.

February 2020. Football season is over. The Kanas City Chiefs just won the super bowl. People are still gathering for parties and get-togethers. I turn on the news - The first thing I saw on the screen was "Corona Virus". I had no idea what that meant. I disregarded it as something irrelevant to the world, but I was dead wrong. I went to school the next day (I'm in 7th grade at the time), and I keep hearing students whispering, "corona virus". At this point I knew something wasn't right. About a month later, I'm sitting in the car, in the driveway with my dad. At this point, I know that the corona virus came from China. I know that it's death rate is very very low, yet people are very very worried. I also know that for me, things are completely normal. I did not know however, that things were about to change. On the radio, I heard the voice of the LA county mayor, "I am issuing a mandatory stay-at-home order. Do not leave your house until further notice." I will never forget the events that took place in year 2020.

Disc Golf has been a sport that has been on the uprising. Ever since Covid hit Topeka, more and more people were not able to go play basketball, or go to the YMCA because they didn't wanna get sick. Disc Golf has gave a great way to spend your time when you're bored. I have picked up this sport and I enjoy it very much. I go out with a few friends and you are able to social distance while having fun. I have noticed more and more people are playing as well. There hasn't been a day when I go out to the courses in Topeka and they are empty.

As a mother of twin 12-year-olds who started middle school during the pandemic, virtually, there are many challenges we have faced. I am working from home during the pandemic and must help them both with school work. They are both in the gifted program, which makes the curriculum that much more difficult, especially since as 6th graders this is their first year in middle school. I find that on top of working from home, I have to learn the materials my children are learning before I can help them. As a parent, I have been forced into the teaching role, and there is not much anyone can do about it. The teachers are doing all that they can but virtual learning is difficult fpr all parties involved. As a history major, I am struggling to help my daughters in pre-algebra, an eight grade math class, and worry that the virtual setup may damage their academic progress. Also, there has been a major social development delay, as this is a transitional time.

Remington got more attention on this extended break that I got due to the pandemic. She loved all the extra attention and love that she got when she would usually be the only one at the house while everyone is at school and work. Me and my cousins found it fun to make her pull us while riding the hoverboard. She also got the most exercise during this break as well.

This Thanksgiving was a little weird, because my family was supposed to have Thanksgiving dinner with my grandparents on my mother's side on Wednesday, and then go up to my other grandparents afterwards to have another Thanksgiving dinner with them on Thanksgiving day, but they were not feeling well, so we canceled, and moved the Wednesday dinner to Thursday. My cousin, aunt and uncle (all on my mother's side) usually come, but my aunt and uncle were scared of getting Covid 19, so they did not come. Fast forward to Thanksgiving day, my dad starts preparing the turkey at around 12:00 p.m., and finished it at around 2:00 p.m., so we went to our grandparents' house soon after. My mom, dad, and some others prepared the rest of the food, and while they did that I was tasked with the job of setting the table and putting food in the appropriate spots when said food was finished being made. Then we ate the dinner, and that went normally, with the exception of there being less people. Then we packed up the left over food, said our good-byes and went back home, where we rested for a while, then ate a "dinner" of something-that-is-on-the-tip-of-my-tongue-but-I-can-not-remember while watching something if I remember correctly (It wasn't the Mandalorian®, because the next episode would have come out Friday...). Then we all went to bed and slept.

Gathering as a family has been extremely hard over the last year as the country has dealt with Covid. Not being able to hang out as a family and go over my grandma's house as often has taken some of the joy away from this year. Zoom has been really helpful for my family to stay connected. Especially with me being in college this year and away from home. Family has been super important getting through this pandemic. If I ever feel like I am losing out on different opportunities, I always know that no matter what I have my family. These times can be stressful especially with school bearing down on me and having to keep up with assignments. I always have my family to help relieve my stress.

When the lockdown started, my friends and I had no way to hang out in person. Luckily we can hang out over the internet by using Discord, the best online voice and video call program. We can play video games like, Apex Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League. It's great that we can still be together while separated.

This call was informing her a month before her due date that she was NOT allowed, visitors. This was one of the many different calls that caused a nerve-racking feeling. We had been in quarantine for about three weeks and it was determined that she had to go through this all alone. This call was very important because it is something you never want to be taken away from you. Sharing moments like these with your family are very valuable and in a very tough situation, you need a support system. Her spouse was not allowed either. The last month of her pregnancy she had to face alone up until the moment she was in the labor delivery room. At this point, she feared she wouldn’t be allowed to have anybody in the room with her. Luckily, Massachusetts laws allowed her to have at least one.
